    According to a new report from the Institute for Policy Studies titled “40 Years Later: co-author Dedrick Muhammad states “in 1968, African Americans were making about fifty-four cents on every dollar that white Americans were making.

    And in 2005, African Americans were only making fifty-seven cents on every dollar that white Americans were making. So over those four decades, African Americans had only increased by three cents. And at this rate, it would take 537 years for African Americans to reach income parity, which I believe and I hope the country believes that’s unacceptable…”

    It’s Time for us as African Americans, to fully comprehend the Term: Self-Help!

    I have read all the academic studies that concludes that successful small businesses tend to be those created with a substantial investment of the owner’s financial capital, along with strong educational credentials. I have read and listened to most, if not all of the arguements, that seek to indentify the reasons for our inability to solve our economic dilemma and, the common denominators seems to be too much dependency on forces that lack both the moral responsibility for sovlving our problems or the vested interest to do so.

    Asking others to do for us what we refuse to do for ourselves, regardless to their level of accountability, is both unproductive as it is just plain crazy. And proof of this ‘help solve our problesms mentality’ is prevalent in todays economic crisis where the African American unemployment rate(…)

    It appears so. A report titled The 1990′s Economic Boom: Another Period of Missed Opportunities issued in April 2004 by William M. Rodgers, professor and chief economist and John Heldrich, center for workforce development at Rutgers University conducted a study upon the question “Are We on the Verge of Missing the Opportunity to Build on the Successes of the 1990s?”.

    As insightful as the titled appeared to be, I was shocked to find that it lacked any mention of ‘Self-Employment’ or some form of a self reliant economic system, which functioned independent of job reliance, as a viable solution for building upon the economic progress that was experienced by us as African Americans during the 1990.

    This omission reminded me of the observations made by author Lloyd D. McCarthy in his book “In-dependence from bondage” whereby he stated that “The black bourgeoisie are often venal and feckless, but they are(…)
