    Unemployment or Self employment –Part 2

    It’s been almost two months now since President Bush and his Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson released their 700 billion dollar rescue plan for saving the economy, and still no word on exactly how the unique needs of African Americans are to be dealt with. However, one aspect of this dilemma has been made perfectly clear which is; “unemployment is on the rise and well continue to worsen, before and if, a solution to this economic crisis is resolved”. And, with jobs being the number one issue on the minds of African Americans, the situation does not look very promising, if jobs are the rescue plan that African Americans have in mind. By all

    Unemployment or Self employment-Part 1

    No one in their right mind can deny that African Americans have always suffered the brunt of any economic downturn, and no one with a mind, can deny that employment for African Americans within the general market is one of the first indicators (the last hired and first fired syndrome) toward a downward in the economy. Even the compliant organization of the National Urban League stated within their last quarterly report on unemployment that “Unfortunately, discouraged workers are not counted into the monthly unemployment rates, because they are collected into a separate survey. However, if African-American discouraged workers were included into the unemployment rate, the black unemployment rate would be much higher than is actually reported on a monthly basis”.     A Rescue plan for African Americans

    As of late, we have heard a lot of talk about rescuing (or bailing out…whatever you prefer) just about everybody and everything in America except African Americans. I have heard about a rescue plan for just about every segment of this society, from the automobile industry; Wall Street, banks, to the coded language of saving white folk i.e. middle class and if you thinking that ‘middle class refers to African Americans, I would encourage you to get the facts.  With all this talk about how important everybody seems to be the economic survival of America, as the reason that they cannot or should not be allowed to fail, makes our invisibility in the mist of this national debate all that more ironic. Our omission to this discussion
